Archiman Biswas
Program Associate - Sustainable Cities & Transport
Dr. Archiman Biswas is a Program Associate with the Sustainable Cities and Transport team at WRI India, where he contributes to research publications, knowledge initiatives and strategic projects focused on urban sustainability and mobility.
Before joining WRI India, Dr. Biswas pursued his Ph.D. in City Planning at IIT Kharagpur, where his doctoral research examined consumer behavior in online and in-store retail across Tier-II Indian cities. His work has been widely published in international journals, featured in several book chapters, and presented at national and international conferences.
During his doctoral tenure, he also collaborated on multiple Government of India projects under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, including SAAR-SAMEEKSHA, SAAR-2, BASIIC, and the Global Housing Technology Challenge (GHTC). As a Consultant Project Associate, he contributed to economic assessments, impact documentation, and the development of online educational content on inclusive cities and sustainable housing. In addition, he served as a Teaching Assistant at IIT Kharagpur and actively reviews manuscripts for reputed international journals.
Dr. Biswas holds a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (Silver Medalist), a Master’s in City Planning, and a Doctorate in Philosophy from IIT Kharagpur.
Outside of work, he is passionate about travel, fitness, and the arts. A trained painter and Rabindra Sangeet vocalist, he is also a medalist in yoga, reflecting his commitment to creativity and well-being.
