Ashwini Hingne is Associate Program Director with the Climate, Economics & Finance Program at WRI India. A climate policy researcher and economist, she works at the intersection of climate action, economic policy, and inclusive development.

Ashwini heads the Program’s work on inclusive green growth, spanning macroeconomic modelling, just transitions, green skilling, and people-centered climate policy. She leads research that informs long-term climate strategies and their integration into national and state-level planning to deliver stronger economic outcomes alongside sustainability, equity, and inclusion. She also oversees programmatic initiatives supporting MSMEs to build resilient, green enterprises and create sustainable, decent livelihoods for workers, in collaboration with industry bodies and local stakeholders. She has led research on carbon markets, industrial decarbonization, and corporate climate action, and now spearheads work on value chain decarbonization and skilling to build a green and inclusive workforce for India.

Previously, Ashwini worked as an ESG researcher with Sustainalytics in Singapore and as a climate change and sustainability consultant with Ernst & Young, advising businesses on carbon management, sustainability strategies, and international carbon markets. She holds a Master's (MPA) in Public and Economic Policy from the London School of Economics (LSE), specializing in environmental and resource economics, and Bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering from the University of Mumbai.
