Hemakshi Malik is a Program Associate with the Energy Program at WRI India, under the Energy for Equitable Development pillar. Her work sits at the intersection of renewable energy, rural development, and energy equity, focusing on how energy access can catalyze development and translate into tangible socio-economic outcomes for communities.

Before joining WRI India, Hemakshi worked as a Research Associate with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) in the Electricity and Renewables team. She contributed to projects on solar applications such as agriphotovoltaics and building-integrated photovoltaics and was part of the Responsible Energy Initiative, exploring pathways for renewable energy deployment that are ecologically sustainable and socially just. She has also worked with GIS and remote sensing tools to support energy transition planning at both state and national levels, including analyzing India’s solar potential across diverse applications.

Hemakshi holds a master’s degree in Geoinformatics from the TERI School of Advanced Studies and a bachelor’s degree in Physical Sciences from Hansraj College, University of Delhi. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, photography, and exploring science fiction worlds.
